Our concert on 7th July went well – the lovely acoustic of St John’s, Totnes complemented the fantastic voices of our professional colleagues – Alison Kettlewell and Louise Walsh, accompanied by Joyce Clarke on the piano – beautifully and DCHQ added a range of their a cappella songs to the mix. Proceeds from the concert went to Rowcroft Hospice and we are pleased to say that we raised £732. There is a the possibility of a repeat of the concert in the Honiton area sometime in Sept/Oct!
Here is the poster for our joint concert with Bella a Cappella! – tickets available now (see poster for details or ask any members of either quartet).
Four performances coming up soon, 4 new pieces to learn from scratch (plus others waiting in the wings) – this clearly requires a fierce and highly organised rehearsal schedule….. Cheers!
Here we are mid-rehearsal for Tom’s retirement do at the end of January – in the Dartmoor Whisky Distillery in Bovey Tracey. Seems that we do prefer to sing in venues with a connection to production of alcohol then …..
We were very fortunate to be asked to join RunBySingers for their trip to El Puerto De Santa Maria which lies in Sherry country between Cadiz and Jerez. We spent an enjoyable week singing a wonderful, varied repertoire of European music under the direction of Jeremy Jackman leading to a well-received concert in San Francisco Church, attended by a large audience. It is fair to say that reasonable quantities of tapas and sherry were consumed along the way…
On the Friday evening we also had the opportunity to sing as DCHQ to entertain the RBS choir, the local mayor and the president of Osborne Group – the event was held in the Osborne Bodega and we sang between courses of an excellent meal. We received some lovely comments (we always enjoy singing to an audience of choral singers who appreciate the challenges of singing in a quartet!) and one of the RBS choir members posted this rather lovely comment on her blog (many thanks, Katherine!):
“We were given a masterclass in tuning and performance – and our entertainment needs were well looked after – by RBS regular Amanda and her close harmony group, DCHQ (Devon Close Harmony Quartet). It was lovely stuff, the artistes truly connecting with their audience and enunciating every word of their original arrangements”
We very much hope that RBS will invite us back to sing with them again in the future 🙂

Pictures from our concert with Rosa Rebecka and The Resonance at Ipplepen Village Hall on 29/4/18!
We all had a great time and our audience were not only generous with their applause, they also raised the roof in the sing-a-long numbers. And to cap it all off, we were all treated to a veritable feast of baked goods – here’s hoping that becomes a theme for future concerts .
Huge thanks once again to Chris for sound and recording expertise and to the backroom team (Roland, Jane and Sue) for making sure that everything ran smoothly (and for baking!). Let’s hope we can do it again before too long …..
